Dear Roy DeShane Families,
Welcome to a new school year! I am looking forward to another successful school year. We welcome new families to the Roy DeShane Community. To our returning families, I am confident that your child will make many academic gains with your continued support. Parents and teachers working together ensures that all children reach their full potential. I encourage you to communicate often with your child’s teacher and participate actively in your their education. As we begin the new school year, there are several things you can do at home to help your child be successful here at school. I have listed a few important tips below. · Get a good night’s rest. (ten to 12 hours for school age children are recommended) · Get organized for school the night before. Make sure all necessary books and materials are in the backpack. · Read or listen to your child read daily. (Readers are Leaders) · Be sure to eat a healthy breakfast every day (This is the most important meal of the day for optimum brain power.) · Turn off TV and video games and have a conversation with your child! · Get your child to school on time. If your child is 10 minutes late every day it adds up to 3o hours over a course of the year! · Come to Curriculum Night and volunteer at school when possible. Kids love seeing their parents at school. · Talking positively about the new school year will make your child excited about the new school year too.
In a district-wide effort to utilize technology to improve communication, we will also continue to implement PIV for parents to view standard-based grades on-line. Additionally, we will be implementing an on-line system for scheduling November Parent-Teacher Conferences. Parents are encouraged to visit the Roy DeShane webpage (accessed through the district webpage at www.ccsd93.com ) and sign-up on our twitter to receive regular updates about school events. More information regarding these programs will be forthcoming. District 93 is advancing its efforts to “go green” while continuing to effectively partner with the community to bring enriching opportunities to students. Rather than sending home paper copies of student-oriented flyers from approved entities outside of the school district, District 93 will begin posting the information on its Virtual Backpack web page throughout the school year. Parents/guardians and other community members may view or print out flyers as desired at www.ccsd93.com/virtualbackpack beginning September 7, For more information about CCSD93’s Virtual Backpack visit www.ccsd93.com Please know that a limited quantity of paper flyers will be made available in the school’s office for parents/guardians without access to the internet. We will also begin recycling in the lunchroom and throughout the building. Please be sure to ask your student about the new recycling procedures in the lunchroom! By recycling plastic, milk cartons and snack bags, we hope to raise some money for the school while reducing our harmful impact on the environment. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns throughout the year. Geri Serwach, Principal
