Community Consolidated School District 93 has been proactive with initiating and addressing Student Assistance Programming. Student Assistance Programming is to provide student programming for staff, students and families to decrease at-risk factors within their development. Focusing on developing not only the mind but the whole child: social, emotional, and physical development. Identification, detection and implementation of prevention programs support the reduction of risk factors. Factors that put a child at risk may impact their development of academics, social-emotional and behavior growth. District 93 would like to support the continued growth of students to reach their potential and support students that may need intervention services or supportive services to address their needs. The concept of prevention is that the community, staff and students are reacting proactively to support the needs of their community and their individualized needs in an attempt to maintain an environment where all students feel emotionally, socially and academically safe.
What does this all mean for you as a stakeholder?
The district outlined a three-year strategic plan that has been in place for the past 3 years. Presently, the Board of Education is designing the future plan to support the goals of the prevention initiatives. Some of the individual goals support community, parent, staff and student education. |

 |
District 93 is proud to initiate the fifth year of the Mentor Program that assists children who may be having challenges with academics, social relationships, organization or behavior. This program involves volunteers from the community who develop, maintain and encourage school success with students who may be “at-risk.” At-risk youth are those who may feel disconnected from school, have lower self-esteem, and may have difficulty maintaining relationships within the school. They also may have behavior challenges, need an additional adult role model for advocacy and encouragement, have attendance issues, and have academic challenges. The program has 112 mentors that are assisting students.
Anyone interested in assisting youth please call Betsy Thomen, secretary to the Prevention Coordinator, at 539-3154 or by email at THOMENB@ccsd93.com .
