What is PBIS?

The Roy DeShane Community follows the behavior program PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports) to teach and re-enforce student behavior expectations. This school-wide program will ensure consistency of expectations/rewards throughout the building. Behavior expectations apply to all school activities and settings including lunch, bus, and extracurricular activities. Research demonstrates that students make greater academic gains when a school-wide positive social culture is established and maintained.

The goals for PBIS implementation at Roy DeShane are to:

  • Increase consistent use of positive teaching and reinforcement strategies among all school staff at school-wide, classroom and individual student levels.
  • Reduce use of reactive discipline measures such as classroom behavior forms, office referrals and detentions for all students.
  • Increase data-based decision making to address student behavior and academic instruction across all school settings.
  • Implement effective support and interventions for students with academic, behavioral and emotional needs by developing a plan that addresses home, school and community settings.
